The goal of the Scully-Welsh Cancer Center team is to make the experience of cancer treatment as painless and pleasant as possible. The wonderful oncology nurses and staff attend to the medical needs of the patients while the volunteers attend to their comfort and well-being. In addition to the warm blankets and the Oshibori hot towels, the volunteers provide High Tea to soothe the bodies, warm the hearts and lift the spirits for all of those who are battling cancer.
High Tea is designated to create a civilized pause in an atmosphere of comfort in the middle of a hectic day and to reflect a time of celebration fostered by collegiality and companionship that enriches the empathetic culture at the Scully-Welsh Cancer Center.
High tea is offered at the Cancer Center the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Tuesday from 1:00–3:00 pm. For patients staying on the 5th floor oncology unit at Indian River Medical Center, High Tea is offered in the visitor waiting area the 1st Tuesday of every month from 1:00-3:00 pm.
